How to repair loose parts on kids chair?

Hi,

I'm looking for what kind of wood glue would help us rejoin loose parts on this seat. Over time it has become loose and no longer safe to sit on.

Thanks!

Re: Repairing loose parts on Kids chair

Hello @MariaBK

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your child's chair.

I propose disassembling the chair in order to give it a proper overhaul. If one side of the chair has come loose it's possible that the other corners may need to be reinforced as well. It appears that you'll need an Allen key and possibly a Philips screwdriver to remove the seat, but please investigate the bottom of the chair to make sure that you have the right tools to take it apart. In order to stiffen the frame of the chair, I suggest using Selleys 130g Liquid Nails Fast Grab Strong Adhesive.

Apply the adhesive in all the loose and open joints. Use a large clamp or ratchet strap to bind the frame together overnight. Before releasing the bind drill pilot holes in the critical spots where the chair joins together and use Zenith 8G x 25mm White Button Head Screw to prevent the timber from pulling out again. Slowly reassemble the chair while applying liquid nails on all the contact surfaces, make sure to wipe away excess adhesive to keep the chair looking neat.

Once reassembled, make sure to give the adhesive enough time to cure before using the chair.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @JoeAzza for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: Repairing loose parts on Kids chair

Afternoon @MariaBK

I must admit I havnt been succesful in my repairs ive tried on various chairs over the years 😕

That said I would still be doing the same steps @EricL has outlined as they make perfect sense. The Glue is where I think I have fallen down (last chair repair would have been a decade ago at least) and glues have improved dramatically since then.

Re: Repairing loose parts on Kids chair

Hi @MariaBK , I agree with all the advice given, I did find that this glue is good for timber, it also dries to a clear finish, I have used this glue many times, mostly for outdoor use, but also good for indoor too, which hasn’t failed me.
Wellbond universal adhesive.

it’s available in two sizes, 160 ml and 60 ml.https://www.bunnings.com.au/weldbond-160ml-universal-adhesive_p1210590
