Hello, I am a first home buyer who is very clueless regarding DIY! I am looking for some advice on how to repair an interior rendered wall.
When removing some in built wardrobes, a lot of the rendered wall underneath was damaged. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Hi @CourteneyWilko,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
I think at this point in time you should consider whether you'd like to remove all the render and start again or simply patch the bare sections. The benefit of removing and replacing all the render is that you would not have the hairline cracks running across its face. It is certainly a fair bit more work, but it is worth considering.
If you'd like to simply repair the damaged sections, start by cleaning up the damaged sections and removing all the dirt, cement particles and dust that can prevent adhesion. Give everything a brush down with a stiff-bristled brush such as this Mr Clean Handheld Iron Scrub Brush. Ensure you wear a mask as any airborne dust can be harmful.
Once cleaned, you'll need to apply a base coat render such as this Dunlop Multipurpose Acrylic Render to the bottom section and the blown-out area. Have a look at How To Render for some guidance.
When the render has fully cured according to the guidance on the packaging, you can apply a coat of Hardwall Plaster over the top to give a perfectly smooth surface to paint.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
