The Bunnings Workshop community can help with your home improvement projects.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Diynovice1. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about removing stains from timber.
Depending on how deep the stain has penetrated, you might not be able to remove it. Generally, stains stay in the top few millimetres of timber and can be sanded away. However, they can penetrate quite deep, and if this is the case, no amount of sanding will remove them. If you suspect the stain has penetrated deeply and you are having no success with sanding, the only real option is to apply a coloured stain to the timber to try and mask the mark.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info, I will try resanding but was hoping to leave it in a natural state with a slight whitewash to give it an aged vintage look, hopefully my project will not be ruined
