How to rejuvenate my timber floors?

Hi All,

I recently received the keys to my house. The timber flooring has some glossy marks at high traffic areas and where furniture used to be. When the sun hits the marks are very obvious. My friend recommended the Feast Watson's line of products for a simple DIY fix.

I am a novice in DIY but would like to learn to be more handy. I have compiled a shopping list to undertake this project. Noting that I have nothing in the house, so I am buying everything that is required. Please have a look at my list and provide your opinion if this is the correct way forward; and is there anything I should add to the list :

1. Feast Watson 1l Floor Clean

2. Feast Watson 1l Floor Polish

3. Feast Watson Lambswool Applicator (To be placed over a mop?)

4. Mop Bucket

5. Mop

6. Deck applicator (Seems to already have the sheepskin applicator thus the FW lambswool is redundant?)

Feast Watson also has a product : https://www.bunnings.com.au/feast-watson-floor-finish-applicator-sock_p1523649

Not sure what the purpose is for and if I should need it?

Any recommendations appreciated! Thanks!

Re: How to rejuvenate my timber floors?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @PL59. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about restoring flooring.

First, can I confirm that these are natural hardwood and not Hybrid or laminate flooring? If they are hardwood, then you've selected the appropriate products.

The lambswool applicator goes on an applicator pole and foot and I'd recommend you pick up this Cabot's Decking Oil Applicator and switch the applicator for the Feast Watson one. Although it appears to be a better deal to grab the Uni-pro version with the floor application on it already, you'll see superior results with the Feast Watson applicator.

The Feast Watson Floor Finish Applicator includes a removable sock. This Feast Watson Floor Finish Applicator Sock is the replacement for the one in the kit.

That's just about all you need, but you might like to pick up a bag of clothes for cleanup.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to rejuvenate my timber floors?

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for your detailed response!

I believe my flooring is Laminate, is there an equivalent product to be used instead?

Just to clarify regarding the Feast Watson Floor Finish Applicator, you mentioned it comes with the sock. Is the sock just a replacement for the applicator? Essentially I am purchasing a pack of 2 then?

Thanks!

Re: How to rejuvenate my timber floors?

We really need to determine what the flooring is @PL59. Laminate typically repeats the boards and I'm not really seeing that. Laminate often has like 5-7 different boards that you stagger around so two of the same are not next to each other.

The best way to check it to try and find somewhere where the edge of the board is exposed. Often you'll be able to see the timber end grain. Have a look in cupboards where the finishing might not have been terrific, they often leave gaps there.

If it is laminate, then you'd use Cabot's 1L Floor Clean and then Cabots 1L Laminate Floor Restore.

It's one lambswool applicator and a consumable sock. Then, you can buy the replacement sock separately.
