Re: How to join a dado rail?
Hi @Jersey1975,
Based on the image, it appears a shallow angle has been cut into each length of the dado rail, allowing the two pieces to splice together seamlessly. To achieve this, you’ll need to use a compound mitre saw for the cuts.
Start by measuring the length of the dado rail carefully, and mark where each piece will be cut. Getting the measurements accurate is key for a proper fit. The next step is to set your mitre saw to a shallow angle, typically around 10-15 degrees, though you may need to adjust this depending on the specific style of your Dado rail. Make sure the blade is set at your desired angle, creating the bevel required for the two pieces to join properly.
Once you’ve set the saw, position the dado rail carefully and clamp it in position. After cutting one piece, repeat the process for the second piece, ensuring that both cuts are made at the same angle, so they align when joined together. If done correctly, both pieces should fit together perfectly, forming a clean, tight joint.
If you're unsure about the angle, you could make a test cut on a scrap piece of Dado rail first to ensure everything fits properly. This way, you can avoid making mistakes on your final pieces.
Remember your PPE, including a face mask and safety glasses.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
