Hi all, I’ve got my hands on a fireplace insert, and am wondering how to install it into our existing fireplace, which previously held a gas heater which has been uninstalled and the gas line sealed up. I am guessing I will need to remove the mantle (but would hope to avoid it!)
even if you’ve seen a video that explains it and can post a link I would appreciate it!
Hello @lochieg
Thanks for sharing your question about installing a fireplace in your existing spot. I suggest getting the make and model of your fireplace so that you can track down the installation manual of the unit. It will definitely have recommendations regarding clearances, type of materials to use around it and how big a hearth must be placed in front of it along with flue length recommendations.
In regards to retrofitting the fireplace into your existing space, you'll have a better idea of what to do once you get the manual for your fireplace. I would also suggest visiting your local council and have a look at the rules and regulations regarding installing a fireplace.
