help, trying to fix mirror onto wall, got 3M claws fixed to wall but realized the hook does not protrude outwards enough for it to hold onto the holes in the mirror is there any additional stuff i can add to back of mirror so i can still use 3M claw? Don’t really want to take it out!

Re: How to hang mirror?

Hi @eugenelcs33

I havnt seen  Cross shaped fittings on a  mirror before it almost looks like it should come  with some more wall hanging bits purpose made.

But lets work with your hard ware.

Do you think it may work is the fingers on the claws bent outwards some  more?

If you think it safe hold the claw mounts very firm and  bend the claw  fingers  down wards  they may align and work into those holes.

I am  not sure  even if you get those hooks into the cross shaped holes  the mirror will be stable if hit be a breeze or brushed against.

I am wondering

Do those screws in the back of the mirror undo a little or more? If they do  extending them will give you more reach to the claw finger too.

Personally I might want to get some picture wire wrapped around those screws on the back of the mirror going from A to B and then the picture wire can hook saftly onto your  claw hooks.

Failing  that how heavy is the mirror as  3m stick on hooks may suit placed upside  down with  picture mounting wire.

Lets  talk some  more so we can help you better.

Re: How to hang mirror?

Thank you! Really good advice. I thought about a wire but not sure if i can find bolts attached. The cross shape fitting is actually hollow not a screw so if there a hook can go into it to hold it in place, funny design indeed. If i can attach wire onto ie a screw then that would make hanging easier and i can use my existing 3m claws to hold onto wires?

Re: How to hang mirror?

Hi @eugenelcs33,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question about hanging your mirror.

These fixings are designed so you can fit a standard screw through the centre of the cross and then pull it down, so the shaft of the screw sits in the slot, while the head of the screw sits inside. The screw head will be too wide to pull through the slot, but the shaft will fit through fine.

If you'd like to use the fixings on your mirror as they were intended, you'll need to put some 30mm Plasterboard Screws into a stud or use a plasterboard anchor such as a Ramset WallMate Plasterboard Anchor then put your screws into them. The head should sit about 3-5mm proud of the plaster so it can slip into the cross.

Unfortunately, I don't see a good way of utilizing the 3M hooks for this. I suppose you could attach two small wire loops to the back of the mirror, but you would need to screw them to the back of the mirror, which is unlikely to last for very long because you'd need to use a tiny screw to not puncture through the face of the mirror.

Let me know what you think.

Jacob

Interesting never  seen that  system in  use  before.

Well now I know  something  new  today.
