How to hang heavy mirror on gyprock wall?

Hi Team,

I have a big mirror I need to hang on to the wall(pretty sure it's a gyprock). Mirror has hanger at the back as per photos. Didn't try yet to find studs, maybe one there maybe not. Can you please guide me which hardware is the best to use to complete this job?

Thanks

Re: How to hang heavy mirror on gyprock wall?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kourosh. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about hanging a mirror.

Can we start by getting you to weigh the mirror so we have a bit of an idea of what fixing might suit? However, you're always going to be best fixing directly to a stud and not plasterboard.

That's a bit of an unusual bracket on the back of the mirror. Were you supplied something that looks similar that is to be mounted to the wall? I would presume that the same would be attached to the wall, and then they would mate together. If not, then the next best option would be to drive a screw, or two screws side-by-side, into a stud and have this bracket hang on their heads.

Once we know the weight, we'll be able to advise on whether mounting solely on the plasterboard is an option.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell,

Greatly appreciate your time to reply back my question.

Base on manufacture information, this mirror should be arround 17kg. And also there is part Similar to attach to the wall.

Thanks

Re: How to hang heavy mirror on gyprock wall?

Hi @Kourosh,

I'd recommend you pick up a length of 90mm DAR pine and attach it to a stud with four batten screws. That will give you a wide enough surface to attach the provided bracket onto with smaller screws. Ive created a rendering below to illustrate this. You'll need to use a stud finder and a level to position your timber and bracket. Here is a helpful guide: How to use a stud finder.
