I’m wanting to hang this barn door from my bedroom to my en-suite.
do I have to have an extra piece of wood across the top for the rail?
do bunnings suggest installers?
somewhat lost as never done this before

Typically, mounting timber is needed because the rail fixings do not match your timber stud work. Fixing the rail to the stud work makes it far easier to mount the rail in the needed locations. The mounting timber also helps bring the rail out so your door clears the architrave.
For installers, you might like to look towards services such as Hipages or Airtasker to find a qualified installer.
