How to fix a sagging floor?

Hi

I live in a old renovated house. House sits on concrete stumps. I recently had to level the house. After levelling the house i came across a floor section that is sagging. Could you please advice the cheapest and easiest way to fix it. The place that is sagging seems to had a fireplace in the past.

Re: How to fix a sagging floor?

Hello @SilentNoise1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fabulous to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your flooring.

Before I make any recommendations, would it be possible for you to post a few photos of the sagging flooring? This will allow our members to see what material your flooring is made of. We can then make recommendations on how to repair it.

There could be any number of reasons why your floor is sagging. It could be due to timber frame movement, moisture damage or old age. It's important that our members see your flooring material so that we can give you an accurate recommendation on how to remedy the damage.

If you need a hand posting the photos, please let us know.

Re: How to fix a sagging floor?

Hello @SilentNoise1

Thank you for sharing that photo of your floor. Can you please tell us if this is real timber flooring or is it laminated clip on flooring? Is it possible for you to get under the house to see if the timber floor sheeting has bowed as well?

If the floor sheeting has bowed, it was likely caused by the weight of the fireplace and the heat emanating from it. The same type of damage would have happened to timber flooring. If that is the case, I'm afraid that section of your flooring will have to be replaced with new straight sheets and panels.

Unfortunately, there is no cost-effective way to re straighten the floorboards and floor sheeting.

Let me call on our experienced members @Adam_W and @JoeAzza for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How to fix a sagging floor?

Hi thank you for your feedback @EricL. the fire place is redundant. However some brick work is still there under the house.  This was a recent issue that occurred after re levelling  the house. I’ll see if I could crawl underneath to get some photos

Re: How to fix a sagging floor?

@EricL  It is laminated clip on  flooring. It hasn’t bowed. Just sag when walking on that particular area

Re: How to fix a sagging floor?

Hi @SilentNoise1

Thank you for posting that extra information about your flooring. This is an indicator that the floor panel that is underneath is the one that has bowed out of shape. There is a good chance that the laminated clip-on flooring can still be salvaged.

In order to repair the damage, I suggest dismantling the clip-on flooring in that area and checking if the flooring panel underneath has bowed due to the re-levelling of the house or because of the weight applied to it. Once this panel is replaced, it should fix the bow in your flooring.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
