How to fill the holes and gouge in my door?

Hi, mates.Good morning!

The handle of my bedroom (image1) is out of work. I removed the old handle and now there are two holes in the door( image2)

Second problem ,the flush pull of new handle is 7mm length,but the old is 12mm, much bigger than new one. (Image3)The old handle also left a gouge in the door.( image 4)I need your guild to fill these holes and gouge before I install a new handle.The thickness of the door is 40mm. Thank you so much!

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

Hi @r23on , not put off by any discussion and it actually made me think to learn some skills.

Re Door- nothing has been done yet due to personal stuff happening and I don't think I'll be handling this job.

Tradesperson/Mensshed- haven't got back to me, assuming restriction around covid etc.

@TedBear and everyone else, really thankful for the guidance.

I wish you well with the project and guess covid is going to have a great deal with how things will go

@r23on @MitchellMc @TedBear

Hope you guys are well and staying safe.

Promising tradie fell sick after his 1st dose  couple of weeks ago and now stopped answering call/sms :unhappy: hope he is feeling better.

Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and put my limited knowledge to test.

Just wanted to ask if I need any additional cutters, blades or something else with

Ryobi One+ 18V Multitool - Skin Only ?

As it is click and collect, I just wanna make one trip;)

Also is the following product suitable:-

1220 x 915 x 4.8mm Masonite Standard Panel

I only have hatchback car to fit the panel!

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

There are few options in 3.2 some are white but looks like it is shaped pointy on one end

Masonite 2440 x 1220 x 3.2mm Whitecote.

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

@newfast,

Can you measure the thickness of the current masonite on the door? You'd want to replace it with something as close as possible.

The Ryobi 18V ONE+ Multi Tool - Skin Only is only the tool. Do you have a battery and charger for it? The blade included should be sufficient to cut the masonite.

240 x 45mm MGP10 H2F Termite Treated Pine Blue Timber Framing - Linear Metre

Is it ok to use this type wood to cut in small strip pieces to put inside the door behind masonite?

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

@newfast,

I don't think you'll find that size timber in short lengths. It's best to call the store and find out what lengths are available as I suspect that 2.4m would be the minimum. Something similar to 42 x 19mm 1.2m Standard Grade Dressed Pine might be a better option.

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

Hi @MitchellMc

I have the gardening kit with 18v one battery charger so assuming it will fit?

I did see the $35 one too but it is corded

Here are some pics showing thickness and how  the door looks from inside and the backside of one of the broken piece

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

@newfast,

That battery will fit the multi-tool.

You'll need timber the same thickness as the gap between the two masonite sheets. If you can tell me the thickness of the void between them and the thickness of the current masonite sheets, I can make some recommendations. We need to be really precise here, and there is not enough detail in your image.

Re: how to fill the holes and gouge

Hi @MitchellMc

3cm is the space between outerside and inside board (pic 2 in the above reply).

Actual board isn't very thick
