How to create a wooden panel wall with shelves?

Hello everyone,

I am very new to home DIY projects and I am looking for some guidance on how to install wooden panels and floating shelves on a wall. Inspiration Photo from Pinterest attached.

Re: How to create a wooden panel wall with shelves?

Hi @aayzeem,

Looking at your inspiration photo, it makes sense that the wooden panel wall and floating shelves could have been constructed as one solid unit off the wall, and then hung and fixed to the wall as a single piece. This approach would be much easier and more secure than trying to add the panels to the wall first and then fix floating shelves over the top.

Building the entire unit as a standalone structure allows you to ensure that the shelves are attached firmly to the panels, and the entire unit is well secured to the wall. You would start by constructing the panel wall on the ground or on a work surface, then marking where your shelves will be fixed. You can then screw through the panels into the shelves. Those attachments are what hold the whole unit together. Once the unit is complete, you can mount it on the wall using strong anchors or screws, making sure it’s level and firmly secured.

This method also ensures the floating shelves are built directly into the unit and gives you a cleaner, more cohesive look, while also simplifying the process of mounting the shelves. You’ll want to make sure the wall can support the weight of the entire structure, especially if you’re planning to load the shelves with items.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
