How to DIY full blackout curtain?

I want to replace my current roller blinds to a full blackout curtain, has anyone had luck building one with the side tracks so when you roll down there is absolute no gaps for the lights? The ones they sell online are too expensive.

Hi @andredantas_sp,

Have you considered one of these Permastik 2 x 1.2m Blockout Screen Material behind your current roller blind? They include velcro, which holds their edges tight against the frame, inhibiting light penetration.

Were you thinking blockout curtains or a blockout roller blind?

Yes, I had a look at those one but it doesn't look nice. I want to be able to just roll up or down and that's it
I was thinking about blockout roller blinds but with side tracker so can be fully closed, no gaps at all.

I am unaware of any blockout roller blinds that would suit your needs @andredantas_sp.

Afternoon @andredantas_sp 

You have an interesting question How about a vertical strip of timber trim tacked to each side of the window frame, so the roller blind rolls down in front of it? (between the trim and the glass iteself) If you are renting then maybe some double sided tape to hold it in place. Otherwise some short bullet head nails to go through the timber and into the frame would work.

I thought about that, but I would still have a gap on the top of the track, it's a trick project I guess

Hello @andredantas_sp 

Using @Dave-1's excellent suggestion, why not use a wider piece of timber moulding at the top so that it covers the front body of the roller. It will then cover any light that might be coming through. The same principle can be applied to the bottom of the roller blind.
