How do I fix my water damaged floor boards?

I am looking for advice on the best way to fix some water damaged particle boards. There seems to be mould in some areas and the edges feel raised as if they have swelled up.

How do I fix something like this and level the floor? What tools do I need?

After fixing it, should I coat it some kind of water proofing to prevent damage in the future?

Re: How do I fix my water damaged floor boards?

Hello @srbarry

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Thank you so much for joining us and sharing your question about how do I fix my water-damaged floorboards.

Looking at the photo you posted, it seems that your flooring was assembled from a flooring panel kit. In order to get the same type, I suggest cutting a section about 5cm x 5cm and bring this to your local store at the trade counter. Speak to our timber specialist in the store so that they can identify the timber panel. Make sure to bring a photo of the floor to help identify it.

If the panel is no longer available, I recommend asking the timber specialist the closest equivalent flooring panel you can use to repair your damaged floor. A secondary option is to use Particleboard Flooring, which comes in different thicknesses. Measure your current floor thickness and get the panel that is equivalent in thickness to your current flooring. To add an extra layer of protection to your flooring panel, you can use paint to cover the panel before covering it back with carpet.

Let me tag our experienced members @tom_builds and @JoeAzza for their recommendations.

If you need more advice or information, please let us know.

Hi @srbarry

I agree with .@EricL also, hopefully you have investigated and fixed the cause of the leak prior to do any floor repairs.

Just beware mould is dangerous, please wear appropriate PPE, mask, safety goggles and gloves.
