How do I fill this gap between the subfloor and the window?

Hey Everyone! My partner and I just bought our first house and are doing a few things to it before we move in. We ripped up carpet and have these two small gaps between the subfloor and window. We are laying Hybrid Flooring down which from my understanding is pretty forgiving and will be run horizontally against the window. Do we need to fill the gap? If so what's the best approach? Thanks so much!

Re: How do I feel this gap between the subfloor and the window?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @zoeannebarker. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about filling gaps.

Congratulations on your new home. What an exciting time it must be for you.

It's definitely a good idea to fill those gaps before you lay your hybrid flooring. While hybrid flooring is forgiving, filling the gap will help create a more stable base and prevent issues like drafts, moisture, or the flooring from shifting over time. A great product to use is Earl's 1kg Concremate Expanding Cement

Start by cleaning out any dirt or loose debris from the gap. Once the area is clean, mix the expanding cement according to the instructions, aiming for a smooth consistency—not too runny but thick enough to fill the gap. Then, use a putty knife or trowel to press the cement into the gap, ensuring it's completely filled. Try to fill the void flush with the surrounding surface. The fantastic feature of this product is that it doesn't shrink, so there is no need to overfill. Finally, smooth the surface with the putty knife so it’s level with the subfloor. This should give you a solid and secure base for your new flooring. Let it dry fully before proceeding with your hybrid flooring installation.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
