The original boring console table definitely needed a revamp.
It had a little damage on-top so I decided to go with a distressed look for a rustic modern vibe

starting with 80 grit sandpaper and worked my way up to 240 grit paper. Finishing in a 400 grit paper for a smooth finish
I used Cabot's stain and Vanish and had it tinted in colour Brazilian roast. I diluted the colour down with Cabot's cabothane clear sealer mixing 1 part stain varnish to 4 parts clear sealer
I used a chisel to remove square edges on parts of the legs
Tools

Tools used a hammer, bolt, chisel and other tools here to create the distressed texture on the timber.
I used a markita orbital sander on the entire piece.
*After removing the back piece I cleaned it all down with sugar soap and warm water
*Started sanding with 80 Grit sandpaper working my way up to fine 240 - sandpaper and fine paper 400grit to smooth in between coats
* I used a hammer both sides along with other tools to create dents, texture & lines, along with a chisel to remove some edging
*Stain - is "diluted" Brazilian roast stain & vanish @cabots in water based and diluted it down with mixing 1 part stain with 4 parts cabothane clear sealer
After sanding and distressing the piece. Raw version. Before staining

Application of the diluted stain Brazilian Roast in cabots using a brush and applying along the natural grain of the timber

Hi @inspiredbycoast,
Congratulations on your first project post! You have done an excellent job upcycling your console table and thank you for adding such great detail on how you achieved this look. I absolutely love your stain colour choice, it is light and has great warmth. I also love the distressing you made, if someone were to recreate this project, how much distressing would you suggest?

There is no wrong or right with distressing. That's the beauty of it. You can create more or less as personal preference
