Dining table and chairs upcycle

Found some chairs and a dining table outside a lovely couples house during hard rubbish collection. Sanded back the table, re upholstered the chairs and painted them.

Materials

Dulux chalk paint

white wash stain

cream upholstery materiel

gel top coat

sanding sheets

citrus stripper

PPE (Lots!)

Glad wrap

plastic scrapers

Tools

Makita orbital sander

staple gun

Steps

Step 1

Stripped the top epoxy off the table with citrus stripper (This took  a long time and used alot of PPE and glad wrap). image2.jpegimage0 4.jpeg

Step 2

Sanded down all the stain. This took alot of work especially around the table legs and alot of sand paper sheets. An orbital sander made it alot easier.

Step 3

Sanded the chairs. This was a massive job and in the end unnecessary. The plan was to stain them however the wood consistency was so varied when we applied the stain it looked terrible. image0 5.jpeg

Step 4

Painted the chairs with Dulux chalk paint. Stained the table with two coats of white wash and then a gel top coat.

Re: Dining table and chairs upcycle

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @nirvs. It's tremendous to have you join us, and many thanks for sharing your wonderful project.

Those came up sensationally well, and I can tell that it was due to your dedication to preparation. Removing coatings from timber can be a very time-consuming process, but your results really show how much care you've taken. I love the finishes and colours you've chosen; you've created an amazing centrepiece.

Well done and thanks again for sharing.
