Best type of LED lighting strips?

Hello I am looking to build an entertainment wall in my living room with a mounted TV and Electric fireplace. That bit is easy, however I am stuck on the lighting options.

Either side of the TV I want to have 2 floating shelves with LED lighting strips. The electrician is suggesting to hardwire them up and have a switch on the wall to turn the lights on/off. The issue with this the lay out of the room, the switch will have to be close to the TV side of the wall which is annoying from a practical POV (all the other switches are near the entrance)

So I was wondering if there is way to have a switch you can turn on/off with your phone similar to what I have on my TV.

The challenge there is that words if its 1 continuous strip, but in this case it's going to be 4 seperate LED strips where I want to control with a single button/switch

Hope this makes sense

Re: Best type of LED lighting strips

Hello @D007

Thanks for sharing your question about putting LEDs on your shelves. Can you please give us the dimensions of the shelves and how far apart they are? This will help us determine if there are LED strip light sets that are already at the length that you need. Any other extra information you can give would be very much appreciated.

Re: Best type of LED lighting strips

Hi Eric

The design will end up looking something like the photo below. Each shelves will be 500mm wide on either side.

As I would need 4 strips for the 4 shelves that is where it starts to get trickey. With the TV wall in the middle I can't take the LED continuously through (or mayve i can through the wall?)

Either way to get that to flow down to the shelf below will be hard.

Re: Best type of LED lighting strips

Hi @D007,

Ideally, it would be best to use one strip that snakes its way down and through the wall in the middle. You could use one of these LIFX Smart Lightstrip Colour Zones Starter Kit 2m kits and extensions to achieve that length. That way you'd only need the one powerpoint and the lights can be activated through an app.

Apart from running the cable through the wall, the only real difficulty will be getting the lights to jump down to the next set of shelves. The lights could be run down in the corner, and a moulding installed over them to conceal their light and path. It would be best to install the same moulding on the other side of the room to keep the look consistent.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Best type of LED lighting strips

Thank's Mitchell that sounds like the best way forward, I will investigate the moulding options and see if that looks visually appealing.

Re: Best type of LED lighting strips

You could also run it into the wall cavity @D007, down it, and then out into the bottom row of shelves.
