What sealant for plywood or MDF coasters?

Hi, I've painted these MDF coasters using Resene and other acrylic paints. These will be used for hot cups or hot pots. Please advise a sealer for the craft work to make it heatproof. I have used resin in the past but it goes yellow after a while. Is there any other product or varnish that can be used ?

Re: Plywood or MDF coasters/board sealant

Hi @Sakshi,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I have to say those coasters look wonderful and I can understand why you would want to protect them as best you can.

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a clear coat that is designed specifically to resist high temperatures.

A clear coat such as White Knight 310g Clear Gloss Squirts Spray Paint can typically resist maximum temperatures of around 80°C, however, anything higher than this would likely require a specialised product.

You could also try this Bondall Gloss Monocel Clear Timber Varnish, but I'm unsure of how it would perform under intense heat.

Allow me to tag @Noyade, @Jewelleryrescue and @Dave-1 to see if they have any ideas.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Afternoon @Sakshi

Nice work  and yeah I would be trying to protect them as well.

Sad to say I really dont have an idea on what could be used to give them that long term heat proof protection 😕

Thank you, Jacob. I would try the first option that you recommended.
