Hello I have a broken ceramic mug that I want to glue back together as it has sentimental value. The mug would contain hot water and so I am looking for a glue that is food safe. Does Bunnings sell one or does someone know of one? Thanks
Hello @emmam
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question regarding food safe ceramic glue.
I'm sorry but I'm currently unaware of a food safe ceramic glue that you can use in hot water. It is possible to glue the cup back together, but you won't be able to use it as a drinking cup. I recommend repurposing it as a pen holder or perhaps as a display cup.
Let me call on our experienced members @TedBear and @JoeAzza for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
Eric
Thank you for the prompt reply
Hi @emmam , I have repaired a number of broken ceramic mugs that have sentimental value to their owners, but unfortunately I always give the same advice that @EricL has given, due to the fact that containers will expand a little when heated. The expansion is normally linear & not noticeable, but the crack will always be a weak point and is highly likely to re-crack if the mug is exposed to any pressure. It isn't possible to get much glue into a crack without opening the crack up but that would result in breaking the mug. Best to treasure it as a container of special memories now.
