Hey Hows it going? Im just wondering what the best type of varnish and paint would be good for me to use on a Dehydrating box (Has to been food safe)?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Cayden. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about food-safe varnishes.
I'm not aware of any food-safe varnishes that are food-grade products.
It's best to avoid coatings such as varnishes that sit on the surface of the timber. They'll degrade over time and can part ways with the timber and end up in your food. Instead, use a food-grade penetrative oil like Gilly's 250ml Chopping Board Oil or Feast Watson 250ml Kitchen Timber Oil. Both are great products and can be buffed to achieve an excellent sheen.
Use a rag to apply the oil generously to the food safe. After 45-mins, wipe off any residual oil. Over the next few days, you can re-apply additional coats to ensure full penetration and saturation of the timber fibres.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
