What food-safe sealant can be used on placemats?

I am making some placemats using mdf boards. They have been painted and I am gluing some pictures onto them. I’m not sure what food safe sealant to use once done?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @ctune. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about sealing placemats.

The only product I'm aware of that would suit your requirements is the Boyle Crafty Resin 1L (500ml+500ml) Kit. It's both food-safe and designed for craft projects. The resin will provide a hard and durable protective surface, and the thick glass-like appearance will look wonderful on your project. Just remember to coat all the sides with the resin, as MDF doesn't like water being absorbed into it.
