I love the look of natural cutting boards in my home. So I thought, why not make them to display!

Steps
Step 1
1/6As this was just a first time experiment, I did originally purchase the SpecRite Radiata pine panel. I will eventually seal with a food grade resin to seal the pine.
The Merbau panel is more suitable or any other hardwood.
Step 2
2/6I found the centre point and marked a line through the diameter. Each board is 200mm in width, and total panel is 600mm. I used some old chopping boards as a guide. The handles were drawn just above the first half of the panel.
Step 3
3/6I cut each section out carefully with my jigsaw, having it set in 2 (Ryobi jigsaw) to allow for circular movement. Each board was sanded with 120 grit sandpaper to take off the sharp edges and finished with 600grit sanding to make is smooth.
I drilled holes at the top of the handles.
Step 4
4/6As I’m not aware of a food safe stain, I mixed instant coffee and food colouring. This will not need to be done when making the boards with the Merbau. I applied beeswax polish (please ensure your wax is food safe).
Step 5
5/6To ensure your boards won’t fall when you take one out, I drilled half way through the fixed top half (back) and placed 2 nails to the wall. This will stop it swaying.
* Hints: As this was my first attempt, I would make the top part of the handle more circular to eliminate the boards from slipping and creating a gap like mine!

Now I have functional and decorative chopping boards in my kitchen for $39 excluding tools
