I recently completed this kitchen island project base on an Ultimate Storage 42" 7 draw matt black tool trolley. The ideal was to take the concept of the steel tool trolley into the kitchen to provide for extra storage while adding a larger table top in order to allow seating for eating and entertainment. The table top was made from an Interbuild 2200 x 600 x 26mm Acacia solid oiled hardwood panel that I had cut in half at my local Bunnings store. I then cut 4 lamellas off of the length of one of the panels and biscuit joined it onto the other panel to increase its width. With the timber edge of the previous cut exposing the pale raw timber it was impossible to consider matching the oil finish so I was very happy to take the project to the next level by sanding the panel right back to bare timber to allow several washes of Feast Watson Prooftint Oak stain with the final wash mixed with a few drops of rosewood to provide the final red tint that I was ultimately looking for. Following this process I then laid several coats of Feast Watson epoxy resin to seal the whole panel, a process taking a week and then affixing the newly finished panel after removing the original rubberwood top from the cabinet. Lastly, I swapped out the bulky industrial look castors for Move It™ 100mm rubber castors to match the bench height of the existing kitchen as well as providing a smooth and silent roll on the tiles. Adding a couple of stools finishes the look and the results speak for themselves.
Hello @marinacraig
Your choice of the 2400 x 900 x 33mm Hardwood Laminated Panel should work just fine with the tool trolley you've chosen. Normally the "Custom Benchtop Installation Service" is meant for laundries and kitchens. But, for all intents and purposes, your tool trolley is an island and it is a custom benchtop installation. I recommend speaking to the in-store kitchen specialist and describing to them your intentions. They should be able to speak to the benchtop installers and possibly get a quote.
If you have any other questions regarding your project, please don't hesitate to post them.

Let me tag @Karlster69 to make them aware of your question. Has this project inspired you to make your own? There are quite a few choices as to the size of the cabinet you can get. There's also a great deal of choice when it comes to benchtops.

Hi Claire,
Good thing EricL tagged me else I didn't know that you'd responded to my post.
Yes, we still use the island, it is a marvel of engineering (joking) we're very happy with it and have had no problems with what I thought might be a problem with it flipping over with plates and cups in the top drawer. it was designed to have lots of metal in the drawers and so tipping over would never be an issue. We do sit at the island regularly and it isn't a problem so I must have gotten the leg room overhang on the far side just right. This was a one off that I made for my mother's kitchen so no, I haven't made any more, likewise, I don't think it matters what brand tool chest is used so long as it has a timber top as they all unscrew from underneath and can take any sized top you can throw at it. Certainly this brand offered no issue.
I did restore a park bench made from spring steel, I believe it is an ex-QLD Rail station seat from maybe, the 40's or 50's. I'm not sure on the date. I took video and photos so perhaps I ought to get it into the Bunnings Workshop.
If you have any more questions I'm happy to answer them for you.
