After 4 years living with a 1985 original kitchen in my apartment (enduring really, as it was quite literally falling apart), and saving up enough money to do a full reno….hello Covid! Oh well, I was spending more time at home anyway, and in mid-2021 it was time to bite the bullet! I basically had been mulling over ideas for a few years while I prepared for how I wanted it to look - clean, uncluttered, spacious - and had a builder acquaintance who was between jobs. I had an excellent second hand kitchen I’d bought 3 years prior, but also needed to match the drawers and cupboards in this with new pantry, stove/oven and fridge surrounds, kickboards etc. Easy I thought…it was white! But custom sizing needed and, oh yes, suddenly every kitchen company or cabinet maker was completely unavailable!
Bunnings to the rescue - Ruby at special orders at Newstead store was an enormous help with pulling together what I needed (mostly standard sizing in the end) with one piece custom built. And the finish matched perfectly with what I already had! Yes there was a delay with everything arriving due to materials shortages and supply chain problems, but Ruby was great at following through for me during a very difficult time and eventually it all turned up and once installed, fitted perfectly! So what should have been a 3-month project turned into 6 months - but living amongst the mess meant I could do stuff at night and in between when the builder wasn’t available.
Got finished just in time for Christmas 2021 and so happy with the result! It’s opened up my whole apartment, given me heaps more space and storage, and fantastic views when I stand in my kitchen to the outside and even across to the lights of the Gabba when there’s a game on!
Hello @HeyJude
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your kitchen renovation.
What an excellent upgrade to your existing kitchen. Thank you very much for posting those progress shots of your build. The removal of that dividing wall has really opened up the area and the new flooring goes really well with the white gloss finish on your doors. The repositioning of the refrigerator has opened up the view and does not make the area look crowded. I'm sure you'll be enjoying the free fireworks display whenever there is a game on.
Again, thank you for sharing such a wonderful kitchen revamp.
