Re: Kitchen Tile fixing

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kompella. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing a benchtop.

Due to the multiple structural cracks running from front to back, there’s unfortunately no way to fully fix the damage. However, a professional benchtop restorer may be able to fill and blend the cracks to a satisfactory standard.

Given the extent of the cracking, it would be worth getting a quote for repair and comparing it to the cost of a full benchtop replacement. Depending on the severity, a replacement might be the more practical long-term solution. We have plenty of benchtops on the Bunnings website to choose from. Let me know if you need a hand with the selection.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell

Thank you very much for your answer. I am renter, unfortunately replacement costs more! thing is that when occupied apartment there was already a crack which was small. Now it has developed and apartment owner is insisting that I get if fixed!! Can you kindly suggest bench top repairers who can fix to satisfactory standard?

Re: Kitchen Tile fixing

We don't have any association with benchtop repairers @Kompella. It might be best to search online for a company in your area, or you could look to enlist a professional on sites like Hipages or Airtasker.

Let me tag @Dave-1 and @Nailbag to get their thoughts.

Re: Kitchen Tile fixing

Good morning @Kompella

😕 feel for your issue. Do you have a photo of the crack that was there before? Or does the real estate have one? I would use that as a starting point in discussing ways forward with your landlord as this is not an easy "repair" I would say its a replace to fix. You can stregthen it underneath but to fix it I dont know of any way that would work well.

Depending on how severe the original crack was and where it was located is definently the first point of call with your landlord. Then if they insist on something that you dont agree with there is the Resolving residential tenancy disputes for NSW, other states will have their own.

Re: Kitchen Tile fixing

Hi @Kompella

as @MitchellMc has already highlighted there is not repair solution in this case. From experience, even very small chips in stone benchtops to repair are well into the hundreds. Though a professional could structurally glue the broken section, there would always be the noticeable crack, and even then it would be a very expensive excersice.

To cause such a crack would take an extreme hit to the surface. If you're confident that this was pre your occupancy, I would be searching for photos prior to you moving in and evidence from the rental company to prove it was pre-existing. From the photos supplied there is already severe very large chips in the edge. They too would take an almighty hit to create.
