Hi,
I have seen a few threads on this topic on the forum, however I'm stuck in the final steps to remove the cartridge.
I was able to remove the handle, but can't move on to the next step and access the cartridge (see photos attached).
I'm assuming based on the other discussions that I then have to remove the decor cover, and then the nut, but nothing is moving at all. I have tried using a wrench to twist the decor cover, unsuccessfully.
Would you be able to confirm that there are indeed two more parts to remove before I can extract the cartridge? And if yes what tool I should use to do so?
Thanks
Eric
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Eric21. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about disassembling a mixer tap.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues disassembling your sink mixer.
To access and remove the cartridge, you'll need to remove the small domed cover. I recommend spraying some WD40 inside the rim of the domed cover and in the external seam between it and the body before leaving it for a few hours. This will help lubricate the threads and hopefully break any bond. You can then try a rubber strap wrench to remove the cover.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Thanks Mitchell.
I tried applying WD40 and using the strap wrench, unsuccessfully. I think that the shape of the small domed cover makes it quite difficult for any tool to grab it. I guess I'll have to use a plumber.
Hello @Eric21
If the cover cap is too tight or is stuck, I'm afraid you'll need to get a plumber to remove it for you. Technically you could use a multi grip, but there is a very large percentage that the cover cap will get damaged, and the paint finish will be ruined.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
