Hi, I am going to paint my kitchen cabinets soon with 2PAK polyurethane paint . Does anyone know if I should sand with 240 or 400, if anyone knows would you please be able to list the steps of sanding in order to achieve a smooth finish . Thanks
Hello @kayoparata
Thanks for sharing your question about painting your kitchen cabinets. When MDF is sanded too much it starts to release its surface fibres and becomes difficult to paint. Your goal is to rough up the surface without degrading the surface too much. I recommend using the 240grit sandpaper first, then apply the primer and then doing a light sand with the 400grit sandpaper.
However, please make sure to read the preparation instructions of the paint product you are about to use as they might have a different set of rules in regards to sanding and surface prep.
