How to make plywood waterproof?
Hi I’m making a table and I’m using plywood for the table top, is there a way to make plywood waterproof? I know there are products that can be used but I’m planning on painting it so what products should I use to paint it and water proof it and in what order should I do it?

Re: how to make plywood waterproof
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mariahg101. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about waterproofing plywood.
Could you tell our helpful members a little more about your project, including whether this will be an interior or exterior table?
Paint typically provides a coating that water can't penetrate. So, if you paint the plywood on all sides and there are no penetrations, that would seal the timber. It just really depends on the sort of water exposure the table will see. If the table were to be going outside, you'd want to use a paint suitable for exterior use.
I am unaware of any waterproofer that would go underneath paint to provide additional protection. However, there are different grades of plywood, some more suitable for moist environments. If the table will live outside, it would be best to use Marine-Grade Plywood.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
