Hi,
I have a kitchen cabinet 730mmx380mm (door dimensions) and i'd like to convert it to a pull-out bin.
Any recommendations will be helpful.
Thanks,
Ujjwal
Hello @ujjwalbatra
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building a pullout bin for your kitchen.
One of our members has asked this very same question. I suggest having a look at this discussion - How to create a slide-out bin cupboard? by @lockers. You'll notice in the conversation that I proposed a pull-out bin cabinet made of MDF.
I propose taking measurements of the cabinet and the top size of your bins. Once you have your measurements, I recommend adjusting the sizes I've indicated on the cabinet plan to suit your needs. Once you've done the plan, you'll be able to tell if your bin will fit in the proposed cabinet. I also recommend removing your door and installing it in front of the drawer frame.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
Hi Eric,
Thanks for your quick response.
I had a look at the post shared above, looks quite informative.
In my case, I am an absolute newbie at this (have some drilling, putting screws experience) and I'd appreciate if I could get drawings like you shared in the linked post for the cabinet I have.
Also, does bunnings cut MDF boards when i buy it from there?
Dimensions of the door: 730mmx380mm
Dimensions (inner) of the cabinet : 650mmx353mm
Because of the gas pipe, usable depth would be 380mm.
Looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Ujjwal
Hi @ujjwalbatra,
You'll have to give us some time to get back to you as Eric is currently having a well-earned break and I do not have access to the original plans he created to make modifications.
To answer your question, yes Bunnings do cut MDF, however due to a recent policy change, cuts can only be done to the nearest 100 millimetres. If you are looking to create a cabinet like this, you will need to make the accurate cuts yourself.
Let me know if you have any further questions, and we will get back in touch shortly.
Jacob
HI Jacob,
Sure, I'll wait for Eric to come back.
Thanks,
Ujjwal
Hello @ujjwalbatra
My apologies for the delay. I've placed the images below to give you an idea of how to build your pullout bin. Please note that this design requires you to remove your door and install it on the front of the bin frame. Please refer to the discussion - How to create a slide-out bin cupboard? by @lockers. My best advice is to double check the size of your bin before cutting hole at the top.
Please note that it is best practice to test fit and double check your measurements before you assemble the frame of the pull-out bin. I propose using the Goliath Standard Drawer Slide Pair - 400mm as the bin is not so big.
If you need further assistance, please let me know.
Eric
Thanks for getting back to me.
After trying to find a bin that has reasonable capacity + fits in the above box, i decided to go for this (image attached)
i wish i had more space available for a true pullout bin.
Thanks again for your effort.
