We are doing a new kitchen at the moment and have selected brick facings as our splashback finish. Can these facings be adhered directly to a plasterboard wall, or does the plasterboard need to be prepared more than just sealing it?
alternatively we could use cement sheet and stick the bricks to that if needed?
thanks
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @tl91. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about attaching brick facings.
It's best to install a 9mm cement sheeting over the plasterboard as it's more structurally able to handle the weight of the brick facings.
Once you've done any required waterproofing with Davco 4L Grey K10 Plus Waterproofing Membrane and then primed the area with Davco 1L PrimeX Surface Primer, the brick facings can be adhered directly over the cement sheeting with Davco 5kg SMP Evo Tile Adhesive that you've mixed Davco 1L Davelastic Tile Adhesive Additive into. If no waterproofing is required, you can prime the cement sheeting with PrimeX and then attach the brick facing with the SMP Evo and Davelastic combo.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Mitchell, so install the cement sheet on top of the plasterboard? What’s the best method for me to do that?
Hello @tl91
I suggest using Selleys 350g Liquid Nails Heavy Duty in thick vertical lines approximately 150mm apart. Once the panel is on the wall, I recommend using Buildex 9 - 10 x 32mm Zinc Alloy 3 Star Head Fibre Cement Screws to anchor into the studs of the wall.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
