Epoxy resin coated timber kitchen cupboards

Epoxy resin coated timber kitchen cupboards

Hello again...

Cupboards had originally been painted with a gloss white.

I have been experimenting  with epoxy resin cutting boards etc and became quiet obsessed!!

Why not have a go on the cupboard doors!!  Considered replacing with new Kaboodle doors but the sizes etc were all wrong for this 1990's kitchen.

Used table top epoxy resin which can be poured a little thicker to fill in the profile of the doors first.

Then top coated with another layer of epoxy with a white pigment paste added .  Have used approximately $300 - $400 of epoxy.

These doors needed quiet a bit of epoxy to fill the profile...have covered old MDF cupboards in the bathroom and a much easier job...that's for another post

Apparently equal to 30 coats of varnish!   Very hard wearing and glossy and easy to clean.  Happy at this stage ...may attempt benchtop eventually ...but that is a much bigger job.

If attempting do start off with smaller project until you get a feel for the epoxy.

Hi @Carmel1955 this is such an impressive transformation. Really lightens and freshens the kitchen and looks so contemporary. Would you have a list of materials and tools you used so that other members can consider doing something similar? I'm sure plenty of members would love their kitchen to look like this.

Re: Epoxy resin coated timber kitchen cupboards

hi Rob..thanks for the comments and entry into the July contest.

I am working on the kitchen again!!! advantages of having an old kitchen that someday maybe fully professionally renovated...though I liked the white epoxy doors I could see differences in the shades of white!! my OCD kicked in and have decided to go black..still not finished ..will leave a couple of white cupboards...

as to the process...very achievable but you do need to have a little experience with epoxy resin hence the suggestion to start out with some serving boards...many you tube tutorials to choose from....used table top epoxy resin...cupboards are just a larger version though with this profile I did need to fill the internal gap with clear resin to begin with than a final top coat to achieve flat surface. Could possibly use builders bog etc as the filler... still need to tackle the benchtop!!
