About to start a Reno on the kitchen, but not removing the current floor, it will be sanded back and redone.
Question is, can I install an island bench on top of the current floorboards?
And, how can this be done?
Hi @damien-22,
It's standard practice to install cabinetry or island benches over floorboards. The cabinets will be fixed with brackets to the subfloor. Any idea of what's under the floorboards? If it's concrete, then Dynabolts will be used. Typically, you'd fit the angle brackets down to the floor in suitable locations to align with the inside walls of the cabinet carcasses. You'd then assemble the carcasses and place them over the brackets. Timber screws will then be used to connect the brackets to the carcasses. Kickboards are then installed to conceal beneath the carcass. Alternatively, framing timber can be screwed to the floor, and the carcasses placed over it. The timber is then screwed to the carcass.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
