Strange growth on driveway: Any ideas?

Hi everyone. First post for me...

I've had this growth on my driveway for a year or so now. There are some maple and elm trees growing a few metres away. Any ideas what it could be?

It's rubbery in texture. Size wise, this 2nd photo shows how big it is compared to my shoe.

It recently came off and i couldnt see it attached to any roots. Maybe fungal?

Would love to hear thoughts and if I need to be worried about anything.

Cheers,

Gibbo

Is it a puff ball? Maybe it's already started sporing....

Gotta be fungal I'd say. Can you take a photo further back so we can see the context a bit more?
