Winter is the ideal time to plant many different types of fruit trees, including popular deciduous trees like apple and pear, and citrus trees like orange and lemon.
Many fruit trees are also cheaper to buy in the winter as they can be purchased bare rooted.
But what tree to choose? The latest Workshop poll asks what type of fruit would you most like to grow in your backyard.
Please add your vote to the poll on the front page and add a reply below telling us what you choose and why.
Thanks for adding your vote and joining in the discussion.

I really want an avocado tree. I eat a lot of them and they are so expensive!
Now thinking about changing my vote to blueberries....
You are lucky to have grown up on an orchard @aly!

@Trying back in my day, it was Satsuma, or nothing, but I bear good news.
Heritage Fruit Society lists Blood Plums as being Satsumas:
http://www.heritagefruitssociety.org.au/page-1766148
Listed under the Japanese heading.
"SATSUMA or BLOOD PLUM Large, dark red, very juicy, and of rich flavor."
Since you asked so nicely.
@Andy_Mann as soon as I read the name Satsuma I knew it was right !! Thank you for reminding me. I do wish I knew where to purchase the fruit, rather than the tree. But the info was great. Cheers
@Trying, here's the contact for Fruit Growers Victoria Ltd, they may be able to supply the names of local growers.
While searching, I discovered that fruit growers are going through tough times, & no surprise, it's through the large supermarket chains that're doing the damage.
Here's an article of a grower who's struggling, & his innovative system to survive:
I'd like to think that his approach will spread, making it better for growers & buyers.
