Re: cactus needs help

Hi @Alexis1978,

Almost all reasons for cactus dieback are due to moisture-related issues. These can be overwatering, but more likely, a poorly draining planting mix. Have you re-potted the cactus lately? How often are you watering, and how long does the soil stay moist afterwards? It's best to only water the cactus when the top 10cm of soil has completely dried out. This might be once every couple of weeks in summer if it hasn't been hot, and you can almost stop altogether in winter; once a month would likely be sufficient. If it has rained in the last week, don't water at all.

I'm keen to know if you've re-potted lately and with what soil. If you haven't re-potted at all, then the plant could be root bound and the water not able to drain away from the roots adequately.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
