Bayswater Council is required to plant a tree in front of the house. We wonder which tree we should plant. We don't want the tree to be too big, and the root is not invasive and can lift up the paving.
Hi @truongtrac,
Thank you for your question about planting trees in front of your property as required by Bayswater Council.
Assuming you are referring to Bayswater in Western Australia, then your local council has provided this Street Tree Planting Palette with a variety of options that you can peruse and information on best practices.
Of the trees they have mentioned, the Chinese Pistachio (Pistacia Chinensis) looks to be the best option. This deciduous tree typically grows to about 8 meters in height, offers vibrant autumn foliage, and has a well-behaved root system, making it suitable for urban settings without causing damage to pavements or infrastructure.
As per Bayswater Council's Street Tree Planting Palette -
"The small deciduous tree displays beautiful autumn colours in shades of orange, yellow, and red. Its bark is dark grey with shallow furrows, and it boasts rich green leaves and clusters of small white flowers during the summer. This tree is resilient and can thrive in harsh conditions and poor-quality soils. It is well-suited for various landscape sites, nature strips, paving, and areas under power lines, as long as the soil is well-drained."
