What lawn mower for a 50sqm backyard?

Which lawn mower to buy for my 50sqm Tiftuf backyard? Rotary or cylindrical?

I considered the Ozito, Makita and ego but I’m very confused on which one would work best. Please give me your suggestions

Re: What lawn mower for a 50sqm backyard?

Hi @karthika

The cylinder mower is much more required up keep to keep it tip top running as its cutting blade needs to be running smooth. It  basically is a pair of rotary scissors so  you know if scissors are not adjusted right they wont cut properly.  But the cylinder mower is used to cut pristine lawns like bowling  greens etc.

The rotary mower is low maintenace and easy to  run and a  good choice.

The makita electric mower is the pick out of  your bunch it is a good solid  brand costs a little more but will last longer as a  guide.

I hope this  helps a bit.

Re: What lawn mower for a 50sqm backyard?

Hi @karthika,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

I suppose the choice comes down to what you value the most. Quality of cut or ease of cut.

As @Jewelleryrescue has mentioned, cylinder mowers give a much cleaner cut, but they are usually smaller, more maintenance is required and the time to cut your lawn will be increased. If you love your lawn and are really committed to it, cylinder mowers are definitely the way to go. The Ozito PXC 18V 380mm Cordless Cylinder Lawn Mower is a good option for a battery cylinder mower and the Victa 16" Razor Cut Push Mower is a fantastic manual option that requires no petrol or batteries.

A rotary mower will not give as clean a cut, but they are faster, larger and come with many more options.

In terms of battery lawnmowers, Ego is right up there with the best. It's a high-end trade-facing brand that is available through our friends at Tool Kit Depot. They tend to aim at commercial lawn care companies and sole traders who are looking to transition away from petrol mowers. They make fantastic stuff, but it is probably overkill for the size of your yard.

Makita's DLM464PT2 18Vx2 Brushless Lawn Mower is on my Christmas wish list and is a very high-quality product from a fantastic power tool brand. Makita comes at a slightly higher price point, but they make fantastic tools that I have used and abused for years with little issue. Their battery platform is fantastic with hundreds of compatible tools for a variety of applications.

Ozito's options for battery mowers such as the Ozito PXC 36V 2 x 18V Brushless Lawn Mower or the Ozito PXC 18V Brushless Lawn Mower PXCLMK-1418 are also great options at a lower price point than the other options I've mentioned. Their PXC batteries are compatible with hundreds of tools that come at a reasonable price. Ozito tools are a fantastic option for D.I.Y. use.

Battery mowers have certainly caught up with petrol mowers in terms of power and quality in recent years, but there are also plenty of high-quality petrol mowers on the market that you should consider. I have owned and used this Masport 470 2'N1 Petrol Lawn Mower for years and it has served me well, but I plan on moving to a Makita battery mower in the near future.

I hope this has helped, but if you have any further questions, I am happy to assist further.

Hi @JacobZ

Thank you for the detailed response! I appreciate the time taken to write this. I did find the Ozito cylinder mower is way cheaper than Ego or Makita. So from a price point, it makes more sense to get ozito cylinder but I hope it will be enough for my lawn.

you reckon it would be better to go for this than the more expensive ones? Considering my size? And what battery size is recommended

Re: What lawn mower for a 50sqm backyard?

Hi @karthika,

Considering the size of the yard, the Ozito PXC 18V Cordless Cylinder Lawn Mower will be great.

For batteries, I'd suggest grabbing this Ozito PXC 18V 2 x 4.0Ah Batteries And Multi Charger Pack which has a fast charger and two 4.0-amp hour batteries. These are decently sized batteries, so you should get through the lawn on one charge, but you'll have the option of a second battery that can be on charge while you're working.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
