Wall Mounted Clothes Line

Wall Mounted Clothes Line

Hi! Due to space, I'd prefer to install a wall mounted clothes line, externally, onto a brick wall. I can't seem to find specifications that include how much weight can be placed on the line, once mounted.

Don't particularly want to dig concrete footings.

Any guidance would be much appreciated🙏

Re: Wall Mounted Clothes Line

Hi @SM2444

A brick wall will support  200 plus kgs of weight with the right mounting fixings/

The clothesline themselves will have their own weight limit and will be in their instructions you will need to look that up or show us a  photo of the   area you want to use with a couple of measurements we might be able to help in more detail.

Also there are cheaper clothes lines that won't hold as much washing area or the weight as others like for a 6 person family

I think all clothes lines will handle regular washing clothes and sheets etc.

The challenge comes hanging a wet donna etc full of water Some cheaper clothes lines wont take it (But let the water drain out of the donna first and it is good to hang)

Re: Wall Mounted Clothes Line

Hello @SM2444

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about installing your clothesline.

As @Jewelleryrescue mentioned your clothesline will indicate on its manual how much weight it can handle. A standard folding clothesline can usually be mounted on a brick wall, but the weight it can hold depends on several factors, including the type of bricks, wall condition, mounting method, and fixings used. If the brick wall is solid and in good condition, it can typically support a clothesline carrying 20–40kg of wet laundry when installed with the correct fixings. However, if the bricks are old, soft, or crumbly, or if the clothesline is mounted on a single-brick (veneer) wall, you may need extra reinforcement.

I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - How to install folding clothesline on brick wall? by @tom138. In that discussion, I suggested using the Ramset Chemset Ultrafix Plus. I also recommend reading - How to mount a clothesline into brick? by @Bell_1986.

I propose using the following products to firmly anchor your clothesline in place.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: Ramset Chemset

Please remember to wear personal protections such as gloves, goggles and a mask when drilling into your brick wall.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
