Hi all,
About a year ago I planted some canna lilies given to me by a friend. They have grown quite large and seem to be choking a hibiscus nearby. Should I thin them out near the hibiscus?
Regards,
Steve
Hi @SteveC,
If you allow the Lillies to continue to grow, they'll block sunlight to the Hibiscuses' lower branches. It will then start growing upwards instead of out and drop the leaves lower down. If you'd like the Hibiscus to be the prominent feature plant here, then a thinning or removal of the Lillies could be in order.
If you remove the three groups I've marked below, that will allow light to the lower branches at the front of the Hibiscus where it will be viewed from.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Mitchell
Thanks
