How to treat Buffalo lawn brown patches?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the Bunnings community page and have a question about buffalo lawns. I've attached some pictures for reference. My lawn has some brown patches, and despite applying topsoil and fertilizer, the patches remain. Could anyone advise what I might be doing wrong?

Re: How to treat Buffalo lawn brown patches?

Hi @robby8512,

Welcome to Bunnings Workshop. We trust you'll get loads of help and inspiration for all your projects around the house and garden from our wonderful community.

Could you please tell us a little more about your lawn? We are you based? How long ago was the lawn established? How much sun does it get? How often are you watering and feeding?

Many thanks,

Jason

Re: How to treat Buffalo lawn brown patches?

Hello @robby8512

Allow me to welcome you as well to the Bunnings Workshop community! It's great that you're seeking advice for your buffalo lawn. From the photos, it seems like your lawn might be experiencing a few issues. While you've already applied topsoil and fertilizer, brown patches can be caused by several factors such as water stress, pests, diseases, or even compacted soil. One product you might want to try is the Yates Buffalo Pro Lawn Weed Killer, which is safe for buffalo lawns and helps manage common lawn weeds that could be competing for nutrients.

Additionally, using a soil wetting agent like Seasol Super Soil Wetter can help improve water penetration, especially if your soil is compacted or hydrophobic. Ensuring that your lawn is receiving adequate water, particularly during hot and dry periods, is also crucial. If pests like lawn grubs are a concern, Bunnings offers products like Richgro Lawn Beetle & Grub Killa, which can help manage these pests effectively.

Regular mowing at the correct height and ensuring your lawn gets enough sunlight are also important steps to help it thrive. If the problem persists, it may be worth conducting a soil pH test using a kit from Bunnings to ensure the soil is in the optimal range for buffalo grass. With the right care and attention, your lawn should start to recover and look lush again!

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
