How to revive my plant?

Hi there,

I have a plant, but I'm not sure what type it is. It's under a large tree, and unfortunately, it's drying out. I'm not sure how to revive it.

thanks for your help.

Re: how to revive my plant

Hi @Bennn,

That’s quite an unusual one. The plant overall looks very healthy, so it’s surprising to see such a dramatic die-off in one area. Even the leaves bordering the dead section appear to be in great shape.

Could you tell us a bit more about when this started occurring? Did the whole back section die off all at once, or was it more of a gradual decline? Also, has anyone possibly sprayed anything in that area recently? Given the good health of the remaining part of the plant, herbicide drift or overspray affecting just the rear section could be a possibility.

Another thing to clarify—are we looking at one single plant, or are there multiple plants in the space? Is the dead section part of the same plant as the healthy section, or could it be a different one that’s died off?

Let me tag @Noelle and @mich1972 to see if they have any thoughts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: how to revive my plant

That's very unusual @Bennn. They are all separate plants, and only the rear half has died off on all of them in a definitive line. The only thing I can think of is that the tree above is overshadowing, and the foliage is not getting enough light and has died. However, this seems improbable since I'd imagine both the tree and plants have been growing in harmony for some time now.

Re: how to revive my plant

"make sense that not getting enough sun", like I said, that doesn't sit right with me either @Bennn, as unless the tree was just planted, I can't see how they could have lived so closely together up until this point, but then die.

At this point, I would suggest cutting off all the dead material and assessing the space you've created. Planting some Liriope would look quite nice, and they do well in shade.
