How to revive lawn struggling in hot weather?

The photos show my front lawn which was nice and green a few weeks ago, but has turned almost entirely brown during the hot weather.

Can anyone tell me if the lawn is burnt from the heat or if it is due to a disease such as brown patch?

Is it completely dead or can it be revived?

What is the best way to treat this problem?

Re: How to revive lawn struggling in hot weather?

Hello @shinsou

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about lawn.

From the photos, it appears that your lawn may be suffering from heat stress, which is common during hot weather. However, it is also possible that the lawn is affected by a fungal disease like brown patch, particularly if the problem has developed rapidly and the lawn has been consistently moist.

If your lawn is heat-stressed, it should not be completely dead and can be revived with proper care. A good watering routine is crucial; water deeply early in the morning to help the roots grow deeper and become more resilient. Using a wetting agent, such as Yates Waterwise Soil Wetter, can help the soil retain moisture and improve water penetration.

If you suspect a fungal disease, you can apply a suitable fungicide, like Yates Anti Rot Phosacid Systemic Fungicide, which helps control various lawn diseases. Make sure to follow the application instructions carefully.

To promote recovery, apply a balanced lawn fertilizer such as Scotts Lawn Builder, which provides essential nutrients for lawn growth. Ensure to mow your lawn regularly but avoid cutting it too short, as longer grass blades provide shade to the roots and reduce evaporation.

Lastly, keep an eye on any recurring patches and treat them promptly to prevent the problem from spreading. With consistent care, your lawn should regain its lush green appearance.

Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when using chemical sprays.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
