Dear All,
My Agapanthus looks dying after we are back from holidays - no one looks after them for more than one month. Could you please give some suggestions if pest & disease control needs to be done. Thx.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @wombatcc. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about agapanthus care.
The white powdery substance on the leaves is likely powdery mildew, which can develop when plants are stressed, particularly from dry conditions followed by humidity. You can try wiping some of it off with your fingers—if it comes away easily, it’s likely mildew. If it’s more stubborn, it could be residue from pests like mealybugs. Have you noticed any small insects on the leaves?
If it is powdery mildew, you can treat it with a fungicide like Eco-fungicide. To prevent further spread, remove and dispose of the worst-affected leaves (don’t compost them). Giving the plants a deep watering and a dose of Seasol might also help them recover from the stress.
If the plants are in full sun, they should bounce back with some care.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
