How to prevent weeds growing in artificial turf?

Hi all,

We have an artificial lawn in our back yard and have this dilemma of outgrown weeds, majorly along the edges and some all throughout the yard. They grow very quickly even after pulling them out only takes another week. We do have a weedmat under the turf but still they manage to grow through it. Is there any long term solution to get rid of these ? Like a salt based non selective weed killer that won't hurt they lawn, also is there any other way to prevent it from growing on the edge.

Re: How to prevent weeds growing in artificial turf?

Hello @foxhound

Dealing with persistent weeds under artificial turf can be a hassle, especially if they’re popping up through the weed mat! For a longer-lasting solution, a salt-based, non-selective weed killer could help the store offers options like Yates’ Zero Weedkiller or Slasher Organic Weedkiller, both of which are effective on most weeds and won’t damage the artificial lawn. Be careful to apply these sparingly and avoid overspray, particularly along the edges.

I also suggest reinforcing your weed mat edges with an additional layer of landscape fabric or even pebbles to weigh down the edges and block out light, which will discourage weed growth. This approach, combined with regular maintenance and spot treatments, should keep your backyard turf looking great!

Please make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when using the spray. Please make sure to follow all the safety guidelines printed at the back of the bottle.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric

Re: How to prevent weeds growing in artificial turf?

Thanks Eric, I have used this on artificial lawn and it hasn't caused any damage. This was very effective in removing the weeds. I did a patch test first before spraying it all over the lawn. https://www.bunnings.com.au/yates-1l-path-weeder-concentrate_p2962054?region_id=117313&gad_source=1&...
