How to landscape my front yard?

Have had my front yard cleared and levelled for landscaping but not liking any of my ideas. Could I please get some low

cosy ideas. We live in South Australia, northern so it’s hot and dry. Total budget is about $1000

Re: Can I please have some ideas on how to landscape my front yard?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @michelle88. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about landscaping.

It would be good to know how many square metres you're working with so we can get a clearer idea of what fits within your budget. Turfing is one of the simpler solutions, costing around $15 per square metre, but if your area is over 66 square metres, that alone could stretch your budget.

Since at least part of your front yard appears to be a council-owned nature strip, it's worth checking with your local council on what ground coverings are permitted. Some councils only allow turf, which may mean you’d need to allocate some of your budget to that and then look for a more cost-effective option for the rest, like laying weed matting and topping it with pebbles.

If you're considering pebbles, our Special Orders team in-store can check bulk delivery options in your area. A Dingo 20mm Ice Pebble - 1 Tonne Bag could be worth looking into.

Another option to add interest while keeping costs manageable is using treated pine sleepers to create raised garden beds. This would allow you to introduce some hardy, drought-tolerant plants suited to your hot, dry climate, such as native grasses, succulents, or small shrubs. Garden beds can help break up the space visually and reduce the amount of open ground that needs covering. You could also use a mix of mulch and pebbles around the beds to keep maintenance low and costs in check.

With your budget, you might find it challenging to fully turf or cover the area in pebbles, so you may need to stretch it slightly further. You could incorporate mulched sections between these to reduce costs further.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
