How to fill gap between retaining wall and pathway?

Need expert opinion for pathways 

I hate weeds and bits growing on the edges of pathway . I have asked builder to have zero gap between retaining wall and pathway 

He came back with following question

” Best we can do is to keep concrete 35mm away from shark fin post bracket as you need clearance for fence posts and rails as the concrete path will be higher than retaining wall. Are you happy to keep the concrete path 35 mm off the post bracket”

what is your expert opinion. Please note he will not do anything with the retaining wall. It is not in his scope.

Thank you for your question.

I think it is important to trust your builder's expertise in this situation as he is aware of the specifics of the job, the required processes and the relevant rules for your specific council area.

Unfortunately, you're going to need to leave space for the fence posts and the 35mm of space for the formwork to sit in front of them. I don't see a way of avoiding this.

I understand the gap is a frustrating thing, but it seems unavoidable, and it is fairly easy to stop weeds coming through by adding weed mat and covering it with some decorative stones.

I would agree 100% with @JacobZ and recommend you go by the builders advice. he will be going by his expertise following building guidelines for this scenario. @JacobZ suggestion of weed-mat and and decorative pebbles like a washed river stone with its natural tones and smooth finish will be a nice feature.
