Hello Workshop Community Friends !!
I would love to share with you all a colourful mixed hanging basket I planted up today. It can be hung up or as I’m going to show it off on a plant stand so it can get all the Winter sunshine and I can easily move it around.
I have mixed it up with a mix of flower colour and also foliage colour. You can get really creative !!!!
Ok here we go. I chose a nice large sturdy basket and liner 45cm.
Placed it on a plant stand
I always use a Premium Potting Mix , this is the Premium Scotts Osmocote.
I filled up the basket with soil about half way , started planting and kept topping it up.
The plants I used are :
I planted the taller growers in the middle of the basket - The Campanula and Cornflowers. The Violas around the middle and the Alyssum, Lobelias, Bidens , Silver Falls all around the edge of the basket so they will all cascade down.
With the potted plants, take them out of the pot and tease out the roots.
Squeeze the plugs of the seedling punnets as it will be easier to remove them without damaging the roots.
Once it’s all planted, top up with more potting mix as needed.
Add a good couple of tablespoons of Slow Release Osmocote to feed over a few months.
I love to use Triple C Mulch, as it breaks down into a beautiful feeding compost so I added a layer of that and it also looks good. Make sure safety first, always wet down mulch before using it so there is no dust to breathe in. Wear a mask to be extra careful.
Once that is done, liquid feeding is essential and it’s good to do it fortnightly as the basket will leach it’s nutrients quickly. This is why I add Slow Release Fertiliser as well.
I love mixing up Molasses and Charlie Carp.
As it starts growing and flowering I will upload some more photos . Happy Gardening everyone and Get Your Hands Dirty !!!!!
