How to connect drip eze to pvc pipe?

Hi! 

I'm trying to run drip eze in my verge. Currently have a pvc pipe which is connected to the mains water with nothing attached. How do I connect the pvc pipe to the drip eze?

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

When you say there is a PVC pipe connected to the mains water, can you advise the diameter of the pipe and whether it is like this poly pipe or this stormwater pipe? 

If you could upload a photo of the pipe, this would also certainly help. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images, I'm happy to help if required.

Without knowing the exact diameter and type of pipe you have I won't be able to point you to a specific product but as Drip Eze is 13mm, it will use 13mm Poly Fittings for most things. Some fittings can increase this diameter and attach to other types of piping, but they can be quite specific so it would be impossible for me to point you to the right one without further details. 

Once you have provided further details, I'd be happy to assist further.

here’s a pic of the pvc pipe it looks like it’s 19mm. It was previously connected to a poly pipe sprinkler system.

Hi @angey,

I'd say it is 20mm PVC Pressure Pipe.

Start by cleaning up the end of the pipe. Use some 80 Grit Sandpaper to remove the burrs and tidy up the end of the pipe. You'll then attach a Holman 20mm x 3/4" Press PVC BSP Male Thread Adaptor to the pipe using Red Priming Fluid and Type P Green PVC Cement.

You can then attach a GD Watermark 3/4" x 1/2" Poly Irrigation Reducing Socket to the thread adaptor using thread tape to get a nice solid connection.

You can then thread a GD Watermark 1/2" Poly Irrigation Male Hosetail into the reducing socket, once again wrapping the thread in thread tape.

You should now have a connection that the Drip Eze can slip onto and be clamped in place with a hose clamp.

I'd suggest grabbing the parts I've mentioned and test-fitting them in-store to ensure they all work together. I am fairly confident, but it can get tricky when you are switching between metric and imperial measurements.

I Can’t find priming fluid at the Bunnings - can you do without the primer?

Hi @angey,

It's not advisable to skip priming. As the pipe is under pressure, you need the connection to be as solid as possible. Primer will ensure the surfaces bond together properly, so you won't get any blowouts or leaks.

I'd suggest speaking to the team in the Plumbing section to see what options you have. As this is a high-volume item, if there is not currently any in stock, I imagine they will have some back in shortly.

Alternatively, you can use Clear Priming Fluid, but priming should not be skipped.
