Hi,
I built a L shaped planter box using sienna sleepers, and would like to add merbau decking strips on the planter box. I have purchased 5.7m long merbau decking strips but not sure if I can add the 5.7m long decking strips without cutting/dividing them into 2 or 3 smaller pieces and add them on the longer side of the planter box. The longer side of planter box is 5.4m in length. The confusion is if I add the decking strips in one length without cutting and dividing into smaller pieces is there any chance the decking strips will cup or it will be better to cut the decking strips into lets say into three 1.8m lengths and drill them into planter box? Thank you.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Sijan. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about attaching Merbau decking.
I think you'll run into more issues if you are to cut the pieces shorter. I can't see any reason why attaching them in the full lengths would cause problems. Just fix them off every 450mm with two screws into the sleepers. That should hold them firmly in place and prevent cupping.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
